LSCC Trade Visit to Madrid, Spain - 2012
Trade Delegation of business leaders explored the business opportunities in Madrid.
Executive Director of London Southside Chamber of Commerce (LSCC), Gerry MacDonagh, and Vice President Ikram Khan of UK Pakistan Chamber of Commerce (UKPCCI) led a joint trade delegation to Madrid. The delegation comprised 21 Directors and owner-managers of well established local businesses in fields including architecture, education, food & wine, hotels and restaurants, medical/surgical supplies, taxation advice, IT equipment, property, publishing, and finance.
The delegation had a meeting with Senior Trade and Investment Advisors at the British Embassy in Madrid, who briefed the delegates on the range of opportunities in the Madrid area and on how best to develop these. The delegation also had meetings with the Madrid Chamber of Commerce, PromoMadrid and Madrid Emprende. The latter two organizations are responsible for economic development in the region of Madrid and in Madrid City itself. Introductions were made to some senior Spanish business people, useful contacts were made and some positive discussions initiated on trade links and future partnerships.
The group also travelled to the World Heritage Site of Toledo, capital of Castile-La Mancha, which is 70 km south of Madrid. Toledo is noted for its extensive cultural and monumental heritage, as a former capital of the Spanish Empire and as a place of coexistence of Christian, Muslim and Jewish cultures.
All the participants commented on how well organized this entire visit to Spain had been. The smooth and efficient organization - for which we are indebted to Patricia Marcelino, Foreign Trade Advisor of the Region of Madrid in the UK - allowed us to make maximum use of the three days available to us. Our base was a truly superb hotel (Intur Palacio San Martin) close to the Plaza del Sol in the very heart of Madrid and from there the group had easy access by metro and coach to all parts of the city.
The next trade mission being organised jointly by the two Chambers of Commerce will be to Hong Kong, China and Vietnam from 20th to 29th October this year.
