Barcelona is the capital of Catalonia and the second largest city in Spain, with a population of 1.6 million. It is one of the world's leading tourist, economic, trade fair/exhibitions and cultural-sports centres and is justly seen as a major global city.
Participants had an opportunity to meet with British Consular trade officials and the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce. Individual business appointments were also arranged.
There are several World Heritage Sites and the work of architect Antoni Gaudi can be seen throughout the city. Barcelona, indeed, won the 1999 RIBA Royal Gold Medal for its architecture, the first time the winner has been a city and not an individual.
The food of course, as in much of Spain, was varied and delicious.
