Valencia & "Las Fallas"

Located on the Mediterranean coast, Valencia is Spain's third city - after Madrid and Barcelona and the Valencia Region is Spain's second largest exporter, accounting for 10.7% of all Spanish exports and 8% of all imports. The trade visit included a reception at the Valencia Chamber of Commerce, where members had the opportunity to meet complementary Spanish businesses, learn how they operate in the local economy and develop some useful on-going links.
Russia: Moscow & St Petersburg

A memorable opportunity to visit two of the world's most fascinating and exciting cities, Moscow and St Petersburg in one unforgettable week. There were meetings at the Chambers of Commerce in both cities, where members of the group had the opportunity to meet complementary Russian businesses, learn how they operate in the local economy and develop some useful on-going links. Individual one-to-one meetings were arranged to meet delegates' specific business requirements.

Nicosia, Northern Cyprus

18th to 23rd June 2013 The economy of Northern Cyprus – officially the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus - is dominated by the services sector. Although its development has been adversely affected by a problematic relationship with the southern part of the island, its economy is closely linked to that of Turkey and it does not suffer from the problems which the south is currently experiencing. The business part of our visit was focussed on Nicosia but we stayed in the 5 star Malpas Hotel outside the resort of Kyrenia.
Malaysia and Singapore

Britain's commercial ties with Malaysia are extremely strong and Malaysia is the UK's second largest export market in South East Asia, after Singapore. The UK is one of the largest investors in Malaysia, having invested over £20 billion over the past 30 years. Our visit focused on Kuala Lumpur, the economic and business centre of the country and centre for finance, insurance, real estate, wholesale/retail trades, restaurants & hotels, transport, communication and utilities. We spent 3 days (2 nights) in Singapore, a city state interesting in itself but also the hub and springboard for trading access to Vietnam and other developing economies in the region.

It has a maritime border with Italy and joined the EU in 2013.Its traditional trading partners are Italy, Germany and Austria. However, the country is a promising market for UK companies with good air, road and rail linkages. It is the shortest and fastest route between Western Europe and Asia. The workforce is skilled and 49% of the population speak English. There are opportunities for UK companies in: Tourism & Leisure; Education; Creative & Media; Security sector; Food & Drink; Energy; Environment. Zagreb is the heart of Croatia’s culture with arts, music, architecture, gastronomy and all the other things that make a quality capital city. Its blend of medieval towers, 19th century palaces, open-air markets, and ancient cathedrals, make it the perfect city to explore.

LSCC Visit to Paris

Paris is a major European city and global centre for art, fashion, gastronomy and culture, with its picturesque 19th-century cityscape crisscrossed by wide boulevards and the River Seine. It is particularly attractive in the weeks before Christmas. The Christmas Lights are switched on during our visit, festive markets are open in the Champs-Ėlysées, La Défense, etc and the windows of department store are beautifully decorated.

Vienna is the capital and largest city of Austria with almost one third of the country’s population. It is Austria’s cultural, political and economic centre and is known as the City of Music. Austria is one of the richest 11 countries in the world in terms of GDP per capita. Its geographical position makes it easily accessible to the emerging markets of central and eastern Europe and Vienna has developed a reputation as the ideal base from which to explore business opportunities with the East. Prague is the capital and largest city of the Czech Republic. Situated on the Vitava River it is also the historical centre of Bohemia and has been a political, economic and cultural centre during its 1,100 year existence. Its economy accounts for 25% of the Czech Republic's GDP and it employs almost one fifth of the Czech Republic's workforce. Its economic structure is largely service-oriented with the sector employing around 80% of the workforce.

Business Opportunities: Sicily Sicily is the largest island in the Mediterranean with a rich and unique culture, especially in music, literature, cuisine and architecture. Many poets, writers, philosophers and painters have roots on the island , which has seven UNESCO World Heritage sites. Sicily has a long history in producing a variety of cuisines and wines and is sometimes nicknamed God's Kitchen because of this. The island's manufactures include processed food, chemicals, refined petroleum, fertilizers, textiles, ships, leather goods, wine, and forest products. We will be staying in the capital, Palermo, which is a fascinating city and has been at the crossroads of civilizations for millennia. In the course of our 4-night stay. there will be an opportunity to visit other parts of the island.

LSCC Trade Visit to Chile

Chile is one of South America’s most stable and prosperous nations and a founding member of the United Nations. It is a long narrow country, one of the longest in the world, and is a land of bewildering diversity. The climate ranges from desert in the north to alpine glaciers in the south. Our visit to Santiago will take place towards the end of the summer when the average temperature is a comfortable 21 to 25 degrees. Chile is recognised as a safe and reliable place in which to do business and, according to the World Bank, it is the easiest country in Latin America with which to trade.
Trade Visit to Macedonia & Kosovo

Macedonia is a Balkan nation of mountains, lakes and ancient towns with Ottoman and European architecture. The capital, Skopje, where we will be based is known for its sprawling Old Bazaar quarter and historic buildings turned museums, including the National Gallery of Macedonia, housed in a 15th-century Turkish bath complex. The southern city Ohrid, on a lake of the same name, has a medieval townscape and hilltop castle.
