Southwark and Waterloo HR Dept opens for business
A human resources expert has launched a new business offering practical employment advice and support to small and medium-sized businesses in Southwark, Waterloo and London Bridge.
Andrew Charnock, who has over 25 years' experience in HR management, has opened The HR Dept based at the More London development near City Hall, to help businesses in the area to access the level of expertise and practical support usually reserved for large organisations with in-house HR professionals.
The business will act as a HR department for local employers with Andrew being on call to provide a full range of support including an advice helpline to deal with day-to-day personnel queries and one-to-one advice on issues ranging from employment contracts and handbooks to HR policies and procedures, employment law advice and recruitment and employee relations and redundancy support to diciplinary and grievance issues.
Andrew, who is a Charted Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) has spent the last decade working as an interim manager helping organisations to manage through difficult periods and major change programmes and helping to build effective management team. He has worked with and volunteered with a number of organisations in the Southwark borough and has specific experience in the housing, legal services, airline services, facilities management and charities sectors as well as with government departments and agencies.
Andrew is keen to establish the HR Dept as a local business that all employers can turn to for HR assistance and support.
Andrew states: "From working with many different organisations I know that most employers, particularly small and medium sized businesses, would welcome help in managing their people effectively and thus improving their effectiveness. We can help with this in a practical way and without a large dose of bureaucracy. We will also be there to support large organisations with projects and through periods of change and are already working with large businesses outsourcing their HR for the first time."
He also adds: "My desire is to give the small business community a professionalal service that they may think is only available to large organisations."
The HR Dept was launched in Bristol in 2003 by Sue Tumelty, a senior experienced human resources professional who was motivated by the desire to give small business clients the same level of support, advice and expertise enjoyed by much large organisations. The company now has 41 offices across England and Wales, each owned and managed by experienced HR professionals backed by the support and resources of the HR Dept organisation.

Local employers are offered a free review and consulation to ensure employment contracts and handbooks are up-to-date and legal.
